Professional Bio
Bobby Thompson is an Army combat veteran and construction professional with over 25 years of leadership experience. Bobby has invested his entire career in sharpening his technical and leadership skills. Working through the building industry trades and leadership roles, Bobby is a sought-after speaker on leadership, workforce development, and team cultivation.
He has used his diverse experience from both his military and civilian career to advance professionally while simultaneously opening doors for the underserved and underrepresented as a perpetual ally.
As the Director of Operations for Schaefer Homes, he is responsible for all Product Design, Purchasing, Construction, Safety and Customer Care outcomes.
He is also currently serving on the Board of Directors for the Maryland Building Industry Association (MBIA) as a member of the Executive Committee in his current first Vice President role. He also Chairs the Workforce Development Committee and champions workforce/education efforts for the association. In 2024 he was awarded the Stewart J. Greenebaum Award for Builder of the Year by the MBIA.
In 2025 Bobby was appointed to the Board of Directors for the Home Builders Cares Foundation and the NAHB Student Chapter Advisory Board.
In addition to his board member duties, Bobby has been selected to publicly speak at the American Council for Construction Education midyear conference on innovation and during the NAHB International Builder’s Show on several occasions on innovation as well as attracting, training, and retaining talent. Bobby is also the host and producer of The Built World Around podcast which launched on October 7th 2025.
Utilizing his eclectic expertise to inspire the betterment of others, Bobby has a proven track record of consistently improved outcomes in the following fields: Home Building, Operations Management, Customer Experience, Warranty Management, Construction Management, Project Management, and Recruiting.
